"Linux on a website aimed specifically at end users?"  Kubuntu Linux is here because it is the easiest Linux we have found to install (from only 1 CD).

Desktop CD

Using the Desktop CD you can try Kubuntu without changing your computer at all, and install it permanently later if you wish.  This type of CD is what most people will want to use.  You will need at least 256MB of RAM to install from this CD.

Kubuntu is a user friendly operating system based on Ubuntu and KDE, the K Desktop Environment.

Kubuntu is part of the Debian family of distributions.  As such it has an extremely wide selection of software that is instantly available to Kubuntu users.

All the hard work has been done for you.  Once Kubuntu is installed, all the basics are in place, including OpenOffice.org and many other programs, so that your system will be immediately usable!

There are 2 CDs available, each for a different type of computer:

1. PC (Intel x86)
For almost all PCs.  This includes most machines with Intel/AMD/etc type processors and almost all computers that run Microsoft Windows, as well as newer Apple Macintosh systems based on Intel processors.  Choose this if you are at all unsure.

2. 64-bit PC (AMD64)
Choose this to take full advantage of computers based on the AMD64 or EM64T architecture (e.g., Athlon64, Opteron, EM64T Xeon, Core 2).  If you have a non-64-bit processor made by AMD, or if you need full support for 32-bit code, use the Intel x86 images instead.
