Q  What does it look like?

A  Here are some screen shots from a Windows XP computer - click on them to see clearer pictures.  Follow the link below to visit the OpenOffice.org web site for more images.

When installed, OpenOffice.org will appear in your list of programs  (I have dragged the 'From Template' & 'Open Document' shortcuts into these positions, they are initially in alphabetical order):

Start Menu with OpenOffice.org selected (Spreadsheet)

OpenOffice.org was written as an Office suite (in contrast to individual programs being 'bolted together').  This means that the applications are fully integrated and once you've learned to use one, you can use the others easily (see The Suite Advantage).
It also means that you only need to open the program once to open any kind of OpenOffice.org document - ever tried opening a spreadsheet with Microsoft Word?

You can edit HTML documents using Writer and view the HTML source too.  These screen shots show the writer tool bars and the html editing page and html source page (while this page was originally under construction):

Here's a screen shot of the drawing program and help screen (the help screen pops up when you click on a help prompt):
